Pattern & Personality Series Debuts with Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts

Dec 10th 2025

Welcome to Pattern & Personality, our new designer spotlight series celebrating the creative minds behind Andover’s most beloved fabrics. Each installment takes you inside the studio and tells the story of an Andover designer, exploring the inspirations, quirks, color obsessions, and creative rituals that shape their signature style. From sketchbook sparks to finished collections, Pattern & Personality offers an intimate look at the people who turn ideas into the fabrics we love.

Our series kicks off with Edyta Sitar the creative force behind Laundry Basket Quilts. An Andover designer for ten years, Edyta is known for her remarkable color sense, beautiful fabrics, and heirloom projects.

What is a fun fact most people don’t know about you?

I skied with my husband on our wedding day while wearing my wedding dress.

Are you a tidy-desk or beautiful-chaos kind of designer? Or a little bit of both.

I like to start with a clean space but for some reason it ends up being a mountain of scraps by the time I finish.

If your latest collection, Farmer's Daughter, had a soundtrack, what songs or artists would be on it?

Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish

What’s your signature color, the one that shows up in almost everything you design?

I love all different shades of blue.  It is my favorite color to work with.

(Edyta's Sewing Bird collection showcases her love affair with blue.)

What inspires you?

I draw lots of inspiration from nature.  Different landscapes from mountains to oceans to a field of flowers or a forest can help inspire my designs.

I am also inspired by vintage pieces and history.  Seeing vintage quilts and drawing from the techniques and stories of earlier generations helps create pieces that are both timeless and new.

What’s a trend you’re loving right now?

Quilt Jackets are a favorite trend of mine recently.  Wearing a comfortable warm jacket that is also a piece of expressive art is so much fun.  No two jackets are exactly the same, and I love seeing bold colors and designs that make each jacket unique.

If you could only use one fabric from your latest collection, which one would it be?

The Milk and Honey large print from my Farmer's Daughter Collection is gorgeous and has quickly become a favorite from this collection.

What’s your “can’t-live-without” tool in your creative space?

I can’t live without my Janome 6700 Sewing Machine.

What do you listen to or watch while you work:  music, podcasts, silence, Netflix binges?

I enjoy listening to Podcasts while I work.  I especially enjoy mysteries and podcasts about history

What’s your go-to comfort snack or drink when you’re deep in a project?

My comfort treats while I am working are Cadbury Chocolate Bars with Roasted Almonds.  They are delicious and it is the perfect pick me up while I’m deep at work on a project. Also, I can never go wrong with a delicious apple!

What’s one creative habit or superstition you secretly have?

I always use a rule of 5 when I am picking fabric for a project.  A big print, a medium print, a small print, a stripe and a polka dot fabric.

If you could only use three colors for a year, what would they be?

If I could only choose three colors to work with for a year, they would be blue, off white and cocoa brown. Just like my birthday quilt last year using my Cocoa Blue collection.

What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?

My favorite guilty pleasure is collecting half yard cuts.

What’s your creative superpower?

My creative superpower is finishing my projects.

Early bird or night owl?

I am definitely an early bird.

Last book read or movie watched?

The last book that I read was American History and I just watched the movie Saint Vincent.

One project at a time or 10 in progress?

10 in progress for sure. If inspiration strikes, I might start a new project while I have others going on. I love having projects on the go, one at home, and one in the studio.  Sometimes I will carry a project from place to place with me.
