Jo Morton is a quilt artist, fabric designer, teacher, author, lecturer and student of our ancestral quilt making. Her use of color, design and fine stitchery give her quilts the feeling of being made in the 19th Century. These quilts complement both the country and contemporary setting. Her work is included in private and public collections across the country.
Jo presents re-creations of antique quilts, imitating colors and styles of period pieces, using an antique quilt as a source of inspiration, she creates an interpretation - a quilt that might have been made in the 19th Century. Jo sold her quilts at juried Folk Art Shows in Pennsylvania, Virginia and New England from 1988 through 2003.
Jo's quilts have been published in American Patchwork & Quilting, Quilters Newsletter Magazine, McCall's Quilting, Quiltmaker, Love of Quilting, and Early American Life. She has appeared on HGTV's, Simply Quilts program #603 and on Love of Quilting that airs on PBS, program #1408.
She publishes her quilt designs through Jo Morton Quilts and has published 18 books through 2009.
Ask about Jo's Little Women Club at your favorite Quilt Shop, an olde fashioned gathering making a small olde looking quilt of-the-month and needful things.
In 1998 she licensed some of her quilts to Heart of America, who published framed art prints of her quilts, which were available in country stores. They sold their business in 2008, so the license terminated.
She lives in Nebraska City with husband Russ and three cats.
